Chulabhorn Royal Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility Honors Royal Intent of HRH Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Security, Showcasing Thailand’s Industrial Pharmacy Capabilities to International Pharmacists at FAPA 2026
4 November 2026 — The Chulabhorn Royal Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, continues to fulfill the royal intent of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of Chulabhorn Royal Academy. The institution operates under the strategic mission to advance Thailand’s pharmaceutical capabilities and domestic drug manufacturing, establishing a foundation for national drug security, reducing reliance on imports, and enhancing equitable access to high-quality medicines.
On this occasion, Dr. Watchara Kanjanakawinkul, Director of The Chulabhorn Royal Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility, alongside personnel from Chulabhorn Royal Academy, welcomed an international delegation of pharmacists from the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA). The delegation was led by Pharm. Phadungyot Pisutthadamongkol, Executive Committee Member of the Pharmaceutical Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage. The official study tour took place at the Chulabhorn Royal Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility, Phimanmas Royal Residence, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province.
The visit was organized as part of the 31st Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations Congress (FAPA 2026), hosted by Thailand from 3–7 November 2026. During the visit, the Chulabhorn Royal Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility presented Thailand’s advanced industrial pharmacy capabilities to international delegates, demonstrating tangible progress guided by the Royal Initiative. Key highlights included the development of research and manufacturing infrastructure, the translation of research into commercial production, and specialized capacity in producing targeted cancer therapies. These efforts underscore the plant’s pivotal role in reinforcing drug security, curbing import dependency, and facilitating sustainable access to quality medicines for all patients.
The FAPA 2026 International Congress serves as a crucial platform uniting global pharmaceutical networks to exchange academic knowledge, professional experience, and technological advancements, while promoting regional collaboration in research, innovation, and the pharmaceutical industry across Asia. Founded in 1964, FAPA currently comprises professional pharmaceutical organizations from 24 member countries. The federation plays a key role in connecting pharmacists, scholars, researchers, and industrial leaders to elevate professional standards, foster scientific progress, and build efficient health systems responsive to public needs. FAPA 2026 represents a major opportunity to establish international partnerships that drive strong, sustainable growth in the pharmaceutical sector.
The Chulabhorn Royal Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility is a concrete realization of the vision and determination of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, who foresaw the vital need to enhance Thailand’s pharmaceutical capabilities and build quality production infrastructure to ensure national self-reliance in essential medicines. Recognized as Thailand’s first targeted cancer medicine manufacturing facility, the plant meets international Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards across its infrastructure, manufacturing technology, quality control systems, and specialized personnel. The facility is fully integrated to support comprehensive pharmaceutical R&D—ranging from formulation development and process engineering to industrial-scale manufacturing—ensuring research findings are effectively translated into accessible therapies.
A key concrete achievement is the development and production of IMCRANIB, an oral targeted therapy featuring the active pharmaceutical ingredient Imatinib. This success reflects Thailand’s capability to independently manufacture complex pharmaceutical products. It marks a milestone in building domestic expertise in industrial pharmacy, expanding therapeutic choices, reducing import reliance, and improving patient access to lifesaving treatments. Beyond manufacturing accomplishments, the plant highlighted a systemic approach to pharmaceutical R&D presented to the international community: strengthening public manufacturing infrastructure, supporting translation of research into commercial production, and fostering collaboration among research institutions, academia, government agencies, and industry partners to create a resilient R&D ecosystem capable of continuous innovation.
Furthermore, bringing together member associations from across the FAPA network provides a unique momentum to turn dialogue into concrete cooperation. Key areas include joint product R&D, manufacturing process improvement, technology transfer, expert exchanges, and regional industrial partnerships—enabling member nations to strengthen domestic capabilities, lower barriers to drug access, and fortify public health systems against future healthcare challenges.
Being featured as a case study for industrial pharmacy development at FAPA 2026 highlights Chulabhorn Royal Academy’s role in elevating Thailand’s pharmaceutical sector onto the global stage. The Royal Initiative Pharmaceutical Plant acts as a key mechanism for sharing expertise and forging international networks to collectively advance research, innovation, and production capacity, ultimately fostering drug security across Thailand and the ASEAN region.
“Drug security means more than just a country’s ability to manufacture medicines locally; it is the capacity to translate research and innovation into high-quality therapies that deliver real clinical benefits, ensuring equal and widespread access for all citizens.”
This core objective drives the practical implementation of the Royal Intent, creating a resilient pharmaceutical sector for the sustainable health of the nation and the region.
